Three men aged 20, 27 and 30 are in custody, while eight more individuals are being sought by the prosecution authorities following a violent incident that occurred on Wednesday evening in the Xylophagou community.
The incident stemmed from disagreements regarding immovable property in Syria between relatives who now live in different areas of Cyprus. Most of those involved are cousins. One side, from Larnaca, moved towards Xylophagou and attacked the other group. During the confrontation, crowbars, hammers, knives and other sharp tools were used. One of the perpetrators attempted to strike opponents with his car, which ultimately collided with a neighbouring building.
The authorities were notified at 9:40 p.m. The three arrested individuals are residents of Xylophagou. The eight fugitives, who were living in Larnaca, left their homes. Among those being prosecuted is the 30-year-old owner of the vehicle used in the attack.
Two of those in custody were brought before the Famagusta District Court on 14 July, where they were remanded in custody for eight days. At the scene of the confrontation, a vehicle, hammers, crowbars and knives were found and seized, which were handed over for laboratory analysis.
