Bombing attack on cultural building in Limassol - Investigations continue
Early morning hours in Limassol: an explosive device was detonated outside a cultural building on Megalou Alexandrou Street, causing damage to the entrance and to a parked vehicle nearby.
The incident occurred around 03:30. The device was constructed from metal and contained low-power material. The explosion caused damage to the building's entrance, whilst a vehicle that was parked nearby also sustained damage.
Police officers from Limassol, along with members of the TAE, arrived at the scene immediately following notification. They cordoned off the area and began initial examinations. The Deputy Police Director of the city, Leftéris Kyriákou, stated that investigators have been working since the morning to collect testimonies and any evidence that could lead to those responsible.
In parallel, a specialist team has taken on the investigation of the case, whilst evidence from the scene of the incident is being collected for evaluation. Mr. Kyriákou noted that it is still too early for definitive conclusions.
Regarding the building, the official noted that it was not in operation that evening, as it is open only on certain days. He added that it recently changed management and that the statements of the managers are already being taken into account in the investigations.
When asked about security cameras in the area, Mr. Kyriákou answered that all data are being examined. As for the possibility that the action may be connected with political youth, given that the building is linked to a party organisation, the official emphasised that no scenario is ruled out at this stage.
