Ten-year sentence for 39-year-old for 10 kilos of cannabis – Limassol
The Permanent Criminal Court of Limassol sentenced a 39-year-old to 10 years in prison for possession of approximately 10 kilos of cannabis. The accused had clashed with patrol vehicles and fled for five months.

The Permanent Criminal Court of Limassol unanimously imposed a ten-year prison sentence on a 39-year-old defendant who admitted to charges of cannabis possession with intent to supply, weighing in excess of ten kilos. According to Philenews, the case began on 16 October 2024, when police officers signalled the driver to stop for a check in the Zakakio area.
The defendant refused to comply, accelerated and collided with official vehicles of the Limassol YKAN, resulting in one of them overturning.
After managing to escape, the 39-year-old entered an area under the control of the British bases. Before his vehicle came to a halt, he threw a quantity of cannabis weighing more than ten kilos from the window and fled in an unknown direction. Five months later he surrendered to the authorities of the British bases, who handed him over to the Cyprus Police.
During the proceedings, the defendant admitted to possession of the drugs and revealed to the authorities the person from whom he received instructions to deliver them. According to the court's decision, he was to receive a fee of 200 euros from his supplier for transporting the quantity.
In determining the sentence, the court took into account various mitigating factors, including the defendant's timely admission and other extenuating circumstances presented before it.
