Ten arrests and hundreds of checks in single night of island-wide policing

Ten people were detained and 291 traffic violation citations were recorded in a single night of organised police operations across Cyprus, according to Philenews.

The arrests involved offences of impersonation, illegal residence, obtaining information unlawfully, common assault and illegal possession of unstamped tobacco products. The aim of the operations was to prevent criminal activity and ensure public order in urban areas.

During the night, 554 drivers and 168 passengers were stopped and checked. In parallel, 39 premises inspections were conducted, which resulted in four citations.

Of the 291 traffic violation citations, 95 stood out as involving speed limit violations. Additionally, eight cases were recorded under investigation, whilst nine vehicles were detained.

As part of alcohol checks, of the 105 that were carried out, seven citations resulted. Two drivers tested positive on preliminary drug substance checks.

Police announced that crime prevention and suppression operations continue daily with enhanced presence, targeted checks and immediate operational action.
