Ten arrests and hundreds of charges in police sweep across Cyprus

Ten people were taken into custody on Saturday night as prosecuting authorities carried out preventive operations throughout the country.

According to an announcement, police presence was particularly noticeable, with organised patrols at critical urban locations. The objective was to prevent serious criminal activities, maintain public order and strengthen citizens' sense of security.

The detentions involved offences such as unlawful possession of substances, unlawful residence in the Republic of Cyprus and extortion.

During the night, authorities checked 728 drivers and 305 passengers. At the same time, 64 inspections were carried out at shops, aimed at combating illegal practices, from which nine charges resulted.

On the roads, 227 traffic violations were recorded, whilst 13 cases of traffic offences were placed under investigation. Of the charges, 105 concerned drivers who exceeded the speed limit. In addition, 15 vehicles were seized.

In 314 alcohol tests, 19 violations emerged, whilst two drivers tested positive in preliminary drug checks.

The Police noted that operations for crime prevention and fighting continue daily, with an enhanced presence, targeted checks and immediate operational action.
