Police forces conducted extensive operations across Cyprus the previous night, resulting in the arrest of ten people for various criminal offences. Amongst the charges brought were unlawful possession of controlled substances, participation in affray, unlawful residence on the territory of the Republic, assault causing bodily harm, and unlawful possession of property.

In the course of the checks, the authorities stopped 824 vehicles and examined 1,011 people — drivers and passengers. In parallel, 47 inspections were carried out at commercial and other premises, which led to four charges.

In traffic checks, 452 violations were recorded. Excessive speed proved the most frequent violation, with 162 related charges. Furthermore, 258 alcohol tests were conducted, of which 16 tested positive. One drug test also returned a positive result. At the same time, nine vehicles were seized by the prosecuting authorities.

Police leadership assures that prevention and crime suppression actions will continue uninterruptedly, with increased presence on the roads, specialised checks and rapid operational movements, in order to ensure the protection of citizens and public order.
