Fifteen people were arrested during extensive police operations across the Republic of Cyprus for illegal residence, burglary, theft and traffic offences.

Extensive police operations recently carried out in urban centres across the island resulted in the arrest of fifteen people. The actions of the prosecuting authorities included targeted patrols in areas of heightened criminal interest, with principal aims of preventing serious breaches, safeguarding social order and strengthening public confidence in security institutions.
According to Philenews, those arrested face criminal charges for various offences. Among these are illegal residence in the country, criminal acts against property such as burglaries and thefts, as well as breaches of the Road Traffic Code.
The operational statistics reveal the extensive nature of the checks. Officers examined 538 vehicles and 713 people who were within or near the vehicles. In parallel, thirty-seven inspections were carried out at fixed-premises businesses, which resulted in three cases for criminal investigation.
In the field of road safety, the authorities recorded 341 breaches. The majority of offenders — specifically 125 — were found to be driving at excessive speed. From 110 checks for driving under the influence of alcohol, three drivers were found to exceed the legal limit. In two cases tests were conducted for psychotropic substances, with one positive result.
Additionally, eighteen vehicles were immobilised and taken to impound.
The prosecuting authorities emphasise that similar operations will continue uninterrupted, with increased police presence in critical zones, specialised checks and rapid interventions, in order to ensure the protection of citizens and compliance with the law.
