Intensive checks in urban centres led to arrests for theft, robbery and unlawful residence, whilst multiple traffic violations were also identified.
Twelve people arrested in island-wide police operations
Overnight police operations by Cypriot law enforcement authorities resulted in the arrest of twelve people for criminal offences. Throughout the night, police officers conducted coordinated operations in urban areas, focusing on locations of heightened criminal interest.
The arrested individuals are accused of theft, armed robbery, illegal residence on the territory of the Republic, as well as breaches of the Road Traffic Code. The operations were carried out with the aim of deterring serious offences and strengthening the sense of protection among citizens.
During the checks conducted, 582 drivers and 206 passengers were examined. In parallel, forty inspections were carried out at shops and other premises in order to identify unlawful activity. From these, two cases emerged for further investigation.
Regarding traffic conduct, officers recorded 331 violations, of which 77 were related to excessive speed. Thirteen vehicles were immobilised for further checks. Additionally, ninety breathalyser tests were carried out, with two positive indications, whilst from three preliminary drug tests, two samples tested positive.
The police force assures that the targeted operations will continue uninterruptedly, with increased presence on the roads and rapid interventions, for the benefit of public safety.
