Murder in Larnaca: 22-year-old arrested for abduction and homicide
The body of a man in advanced decomposition was found in a rural area of Larnaca district, prompting Cypriot prosecuting authorities to investigate a case of premeditated homicide.
The victim was a 22-year-old from Bangladesh named SHAHRUAR AHMED EMON, whose disappearance was reported on 12 June 2026. According to Cyprus Police News, his flatmate reported that on the afternoon of 11 June the young man had left their house to go to a production unit where he was to start work.
A few hours later, the father of the missing person, who lives abroad, received a phone call and text messages from a person of unknown identity. The stranger demanded money as ransom for the release of his son.
The authorities' investigation led to the arrest of another 22-year-old, also from Bangladesh, on the morning of 21 June 2026, based on a warrant issued by a court. During his examination, the suspect is reported to have admitted that he had abducted and subsequently killed his compatriot.
The accused led investigators to a spot in the countryside where the body was located. Police officers also found a knife there, which the 22-year-old claimed he had used to take the victim's life. The area was immediately cordoned off for examinations. Specialist forensic pathologists and criminologists were called to examine the scene.
From the examination it emerged that the deceased had wounds inflicted by a sharp object. Personal belongings of the victim were found at the site, whilst evidence gathered indicates that the body belongs to the abducted person.
The arrested man was brought before the District Court of Larnaca, which ordered his remand in custody for eight days. The investigation by the Larnaca Crime Investigation Department continues.
