Last night, police forces carried out large-scale operations throughout the Republic of Cyprus, with the aim of preventing serious criminal acts, maintaining public order and strengthening public sense of security.
As part of these actions, nine individuals were arrested for various criminal offences. The charges they face include, among others: unlicensed possession of weapons, firing of shots, unlawful possession of narcotics, theft and unlawful possession of property.
During the night, authorities stopped 370 vehicles for inspection and examined 498 people. Additionally, 45 inspections were carried out at premises, aimed at combating disorderly conduct, which resulted in five citations.
Regarding traffic control checks, 188 violations were recorded. Notably, 101 drivers were found to be driving at speeds exceeding the permitted limit. Furthermore, one driver was cited for driving under the influence of alcohol, whilst 67 breath tests were conducted. In three cases, investigations were initiated for traffic violations. Four vehicles were impounded.
The authorities clarified that such operations will continue on a daily basis, with enhanced police presence, specialised checks and immediate operational response, in order to protect citizens and ensure public order.
