Night-time patrols across Cyprus resulted in nine arrests for theft, drugs and illegal residence, as well as 249 citations for traffic code violations.

Last night, police forces conducted targeted patrols in urban centres across the island. These operations resulted in nine people being detained for criminal offences, whilst sanctions were imposed on 249 drivers.
According to Philenews, the nine detainees are accused of various offences, including theft, receiving stolen goods, possession of prohibited substances, illegal residence in the country and other violations.
During the checks, authorities stopped 602 people who were driving and 139 who were passengers in vehicles. Simultaneously, 40 inspections were conducted at shops and other premises, aimed at combating violations. One matter for investigation emerged from these.
On the roads, the 249 traffic violations detected included cases where 92 drivers were travelling above the permitted speed limit. Additionally, ten cases of violations requiring further investigation were identified. Four vehicles were removed from circulation.
Police officers also conducted 58 checks for driving under the influence of alcohol, with no offence found. Regarding drugs, five tests were carried out on drivers, with one returning a positive result.
Authorities stated that targeted operations will continue on a daily basis, with increased police presence and immediate response, with a view to protecting citizens and maintaining social peace.
