Police forces arrested nine people and charged 260 drivers during extensive operations carried out across the Republic of Cyprus.
Nine arrests and hundreds of traffic violations in nationwide operations
Nine people were taken into custody during large-scale police operations conducted recently across Cyprus. The authorities had deployed substantial forces in central city locations with the aim of preventing serious criminal acts and enhancing public safety.
The detainees are accused of various offences, including illegal residence in the country, possession of prohibited substances, theft from a vehicle, and illegal entry into the territory of the Republic. The arrests resulted from preventative operations organised by the prosecuting authorities.
At the same time, police officers proceeded to inspect 455 vehicles and examined 591 people, including drivers and passengers. In 46 inspections of premises, four violations were recorded. Traffic checks resulted in 260 charges, of which 104 related to speeding.
Additionally, 116 alcohol tests were conducted, with two drivers testing positive. Five drug tests recorded two positive results, whilst six vehicles were seized by the authorities.
Operations to combat crime continue with increased presence on the roads and targeted checks.
