Extensive police operations across the country resulted in the arrest of 11 people for drug possession, anabolic steroids and other offences, whilst hundreds of drivers were subjected to checks.

During the previous night, intense activity was recorded by the prosecuting authorities across all cities in Cyprus. Organised patrols were carried out at strategic points in urban centres, aimed at combating crime, maintaining order and strengthening public safety.
The operations resulted in the arrest of 11 people, who face criminal charges for various offences. The charges brought against them include, amongst others, unlawful possession of substances causing addiction, unlawful possession of substances enhancing muscle mass, supply of psychotropic substances to third parties, money laundering from illegal activities, unlawful possession of another person's property, carrying bladed weapons, trafficking in goods without customs tariffs, theft and unlawful residence in the country.
Officers stopped 554 drivers and 126 passengers for checks. At the same time, 43 inspections were carried out at shops and professional premises, aimed at addressing instances of non-compliance. These inspections resulted in eight reports.
During traffic checks, the authorities identified 399 violations. Of these, 104 concerned drivers travelling at speeds exceeding the permitted limit. Additionally, 23 cases of traffic violations remain under investigation.
From the alcohol checks that were conducted (69 in total), six people were called upon to provide explanations. Four drivers tested positive in preliminary examinations for the use of psychotropic substances. Nineteen vehicles were impounded and remain in the authorities' possession.
The intensive policing operations will continue on a daily basis, with enhanced presence on the roads, specialised checks and immediate intervention, in order to ensure the protection of citizens and public order, according to information from Philenews.
