Audit Service investigation into funding for NGO linked to former MP
A non-governmental organisation linked to a former MP is at the centre of a dual investigation by the Anti-Corruption Authority and the Audit Service of the Republic, regarding state and community grants that it received.
According to a report in the newspaper Politis, the auditors' findings are nearing completion. Once finalised, it will be sent to the Anti-Corruption Authority, which is already handling the related case. Officials from the Audit Service have been called to give testimony before investigators from the Authority.
The funds being examined came from national and European resources. The findings of the investigations have already been presented to the competent authorities.
The parallel investigation by two independent bodies indicates the seriousness of the allegations. The completion of the Audit Service's findings is expected to shed further light on the manner of grant allocation and utilisation.
