The Anti-Corruption Authority has proceeded to send letters to former state officials, notifying them that they are among suspects for corruption offences. The notices relate to an investigation being conducted in connection with journalist Makarios Drouziatis's book titled "Mafia State".
The investigation has yielded evidence of at least seven criminal violations across four separate cases. Among the charges being investigated are money laundering offences, involving former ministers and a former member of parliament.
The individuals involved have been notified electronically that they are considered suspects for corruption. The Authority is expected to release an official statement to the public regarding the findings of its investigation.
Former President of the Republic Nikos Anastasiadis was informed by the Anti-Corruption Authority of the investigation results concerning the allegations raised in the said book. According to reports, the report refers to possible criminal liability of former state officials.
Mr Anastasiadis is expected to issue a written statement following the release of the announcement, while a press conference is scheduled to take place in the coming days.
