A 59-year-old man was sentenced on Monday by the Permanent Criminal Court of Paphos to six years in prison for an assault against his ex-wife in January 2025 in Pegeia.
The incident occurred outside the couple's home. The perpetrator used a hunting rifle and shot the victim twice, causing her serious injuries. The 46-year-old was transferred to a hospital for treatment. The couple had already obtained a divorce.
During the trial, the defendant admitted to his actions and his communication with the police. He expressed remorse and cooperated fully with the authorities, providing information about the location of the incident.
The court was informed that the 59-year-old paid compensation of €130,000 to his ex-wife, €10,000 to her legal representative, and €21,000 to their minor daughter. He also transferred property — among other things, an apartment in the name of his daughter — and undertook not to pursue claims on two other properties.
An affidavit was submitted to the court from the complainant, in which she stated that she had been fully compensated and no longer held any claims.
