On Friday night, police officers conducted planned operations across the island, aimed at combating law-breaking and enhancing public safety. These activities resulted in six arrests, as well as a large number of traffic and other violations.
According to reporting by the newspaper Politis, law enforcement forces focused on areas of heightened concern in urban zones, checking drivers, passengers and business premises. The checks were intended to prevent serious crimes and maintain social order.
Of the six individuals taken to police stations, some are accused of illegal residence in the country, others of threats and causing alarm, whilst there are also charges related to breaches of the Road Traffic Code.
In total, 595 vehicles were checked along with 784 people who were inside or near them. In parallel, 57 inspections were conducted at shops and other business premises, resulting in eight reports.
Regarding road behaviour, 261 drivers were reported for various violations. Of these, 47 were found to be driving at speeds higher than the permitted limit. In alcohol tests, which numbered 266, 16 drivers were found to have alcohol levels above the legal limit. Two drug tests were also carried out, which did not produce a positive result. Finally, 22 vehicles were immobilised and seized.
