Six arrests and hundreds of breaches in overnight police operations
Large-scale operations by police across Cyprus during overnight hours led to the arrest of six people and the reporting of 370 drivers.
Police forces carried out organised patrols at key locations in towns, with the aim of preventing serious crimes, maintaining public order, and strengthening citizens' sense of security.
Among the individuals taken into custody are persons accused of unlawful residence in the country, as well as of assault causing serious injury.
In total, 564 vehicles were stopped for inspection and 697 people — drivers and passengers — were subjected to identity checks. Additionally, 46 premises were inspected, resulting in 15 further reports.
In the area of road safety, 143 of the 370 reports concerned driving above the speed limit. In alcohol checks, five people were found to be driving under the influence of alcohol. One drug test came back negative. Twelve vehicles were seized by the authorities.
The targeted actions of the prosecution authorities will continue with undiminished intensity, with an enhanced presence on the roads and immediate intervention where necessary.
