Police forces made 6 arrests for drugs and drunkenness, whilst recording 416 traffic violations and seizing 16 vehicles during checks across Cyprus.

On Wednesday night, police forces carried out targeted patrols at critical points in urban areas across the country, aiming to prevent serious criminal acts and reinforce public sense of security.
According to a report by Politis, the operations resulted in the arrest of 6 persons accused of various offences. The charges they face include possession of prohibited substances, driving after consumption of alcohol, causing public alarm, breaches of the Road Traffic Code, and illegal residence in the territory.
The authorities conducted checks on 554 cars and motorcycles, whilst examining a total of 666 persons, including drivers and passengers. Meanwhile, 48 inspections were carried out at commercial and other establishments, which resulted in 4 reports.
On the roads, police officers recorded 416 breaches of the law, with 91 of these involving drivers travelling at speeds exceeding the permitted limit. Of the 109 breathalyser tests, 10 were positive. Additionally, 3 drug detection tests were conducted, with 2 of these testing positive. During the checks, 16 vehicles were seized.
The competent authorities announced that operations to combat crime will continue on a daily basis, with increased presence on the roads and immediate response to incidents, with the aim of protecting citizens and safeguarding social peace.
