A suspect in the burglary of an elderly man's home and the theft of €270,000 has been remanded in custody for six days by a court in the capital.

A six-day remand order has been issued by the capital authority against a 48-year-old woman to facilitate an investigation into a case of unlawful entry into a residence and the theft of a large sum of money.
The incident came to light on 2 July, when a 79-year-old resident of Nicosia went to the prosecuting authorities. The victim claimed that €270,000 in cash of various denominations disappeared from his permanent residence.
Investigators from the Criminal Investigation Department (TAE) of the capital inspected the premises and observed that the main entrance as well as interior doors of the house had been forced. The interior spaces showed signs of considerable disturbance.
During the course of the investigation, evidence emerged that led to an arrest warrant being issued against the 48-year-old. Her arrest was carried out in the afternoon of Tuesday, 7 July.
On Wednesday, 8 July, the suspect was brought before a judge, who decided on her provisional detention for one week.
The sum of money that was stolen remains unfound.
