The Holy Metropolitan Church of Morphou has filed an official complaint with the Cyber Crime Unit of the police regarding the circulation of a counterfeit video presenting Metropolitan Neophytos as dispensing medical guidance.
According to a statement from the Metropolitan, the disputed audiovisual material has been circulating in recent days on social media sites. The video, which is a product of artificial intelligence (AI), depicts the ecclesiastical hierarch in conversation with a well-known journalist and recommending treatments for joint conditions, despite the fact that this information has no scientific basis.
The ecclesiastical authority emphasised that the dissemination of this material poses serious risks of deception for individuals dealing with these diseases. For this reason, it calls upon users who encounter the video to ignore it and delete it, as it is an attempted fraud.
The Metropolitan of Morphou clarified that it has already taken legal action through the relevant police service to identify those responsible for creating and distributing the fraudulent content.
