Drug enforcement officers (YKAN) seised approximately two kilogrammes of cannabis during an operation in the Zygi area and proceeded to arrest a 63-year-old man in connection with the case.
According to a police statement, members of the specialist anti-narcotics unit stopped a vehicle driven by the 63-year-old on the Zygi–Mari road on Wednesday afternoon. During the vehicle inspection, officers discovered approximately 500 grammes of cannabis, which led to the arrest of the man on a felony charge.
In a further investigation that followed at a plot of land and premises used by the suspect in the Zygi area, authorities discovered three nylon packages containing a total of approximately 1.5 kilogrammes of cannabis. The drugs had been carefully hidden inside a metal dog cage.
Following written consent from the suspect, police conducted a search at his residence, where they discovered and seised 339 hunting rifle cartridges as evidence.
Additionally, two mobile phones were seised and will be submitted for laboratory examination, whilst the sum of 743 euros found is being investigated as possible proceeds of illegal activities.
The Larnaca branch of YKAN is continuing its investigations.
