Two people have been arrested in Limassol district following the discovery of packages containing psychotropic substances at Larnaca airport. A 30-year-old shop owner and his 23-year-old employee have been remanded in custody.

A 30-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman are being held in custody for five days after authorities discovered that the shop they operate was being used as a distribution point for psychotropic substances.
The case began when officials from the Anti-Drugs Service and Customs examined two packages that arrived by air at Larnaca on 9 July from a European destination. Inside the packages, 685 grammes of cannabis and multiple packages of other items with a total weight of 6.2 kilograms, suspected to contain illegal substances, were discovered.
Investigators identified the recipient, a 30-year-old man who operates a commercial premises in Limassol. After a warrant was issued, police arrested him. They then searched the shop, where they found the young employee, aged 23, and additional products suspected to contain dangerous synthetic chemical compounds, capable of causing serious harm to those who consume them.
Limassol court approved the request from the prosecution authorities for the temporary remand of the two suspects. They have been charged with the unlawful importation, possession and distribution of drugs, as well as money laundering from criminal acts.
Local Anti-Drugs Service officers are conducting further investigation.
