Man arrested after attempted jewellery shop robbery in Larnaca

Police in Larnaca yesterday apprehended a 33-year-old foreign national whom they link to an attempted theft at a gold shop in the area.

According to information from Philenews, officers located a vehicle in the afternoon that matched the description of the vehicle used by the intruders. The vehicle was found in an apartment building in an area of the district.

Shortly afterwards, the driver was located, a citizen of a third country, aged 33. During a search of his residence, police seized two live rifle cartridges and one for a machine gun. Meanwhile, an object was found that the perpetrator likely had when carrying out the act.

The 33-year-old is being held on a court warrant for conspiracy with intent to commit a felony, attempted theft with use of force, illegal possession of a firearm, assault causing bodily injury, and carrying a weapon for purposes of intimidation. He will be brought before the Larnaca District Court today for a remand hearing.

In parallel, another person is still being sought in connection with the same incident, against whom a relevant arrest warrant has been issued. Investigations to locate him are continuing.
