Police in Nicosia have arrested a 41-year-old man who is alleged to have searched online for material depicting the sexual exploitation of minors. The case is being investigated by the unit handling cyber crimes.
The authorities initiated an investigation following a report that reached their offices. According to information that emerged, a user via a digital messaging platform had requested access to material concerning child abuse.
Following a digital investigation, detectives managed to locate the suspect. Acting on a court order, police entered his home and found a laptop, three mobile phones and two external hard drives. The evidence was seized for laboratory analysis.
The arrest was made in the afternoon, shortly after 15:30. The arrested man is being held and faces charges of acquiring, possessing and distributing child sexual abuse material.
