Christodoulides on Anti-Corruption Authority findings: "We will do what is necessary"

Christodoulides: Government will act based on Legal Service announcements
President of the Republic Nicos Christodoulides stated this evening that the government will do "what is necessary" for a full investigation into the matter concerning the findings of the Independent Anti-Corruption Authority, always within the framework of the Constitution. According to Politis, the statements were made on the sidelines of an opening ceremony in Analiontas.
When asked by journalists to comment on the findings, Christodoulides clarified that the procedure provides first for the submission of the findings to the Legal Service, its examination and subsequently the announcement of the next decisions. "On the basis of the relevant announcements from the Legal Service we will do what is necessary for a full investigation into this specific matter," the President said.
He stressed that his government is "absolutely committed to transparency, accountability and the need to strengthen citizens' trust in institutions". As the executive authority, he added, they will act after the relevant announcements are completed, "institutionally and as provided by the relevant legislation".
When a journalist remarked that both the former President of the Republic and Makarios Drousiotis have called for the exclusion of the Attorney General and the Deputy Attorney General from the examination of the matter, Christodoulides avoided making a direct pronouncement. "We are awaiting the announcements from the Legal Service," he repeated, assuring that the government will act "within the Constitution, within the relevant legislation" for a full investigation.
