Mafia State: Cabinet to appoint team of criminal investigators
The Cabinet plans to appoint a team of independent criminal investigators to handle the case titled "Mafia State". The Government Spokesman, Panayiotis Lefthymiotes, announced this intention.
According to his remarks, the matter has been discussed in the Cabinet and views have already been exchanged. "Our goal is the selection of appropriate persons and the taking of a decision as soon as possible," he stated characteristically.
Mr. Lefthymiotes did not rule out the possibility of assigning the investigation to foreign criminological investigators. The government is examining all parameters for the appointment, in order for the process to be fully transparent and reliable.
The "Mafia State" case concerns serious allegations of corruption and links between organised crime and figures in public life. The findings of the Anti-Corruption Authority have already caused political upheaval.
