Cyprus Government: Findings on 'Mafia State' Treated with Respect
Government spokesperson Konstantinos Letymiotis spoke to KYPE following the release of the findings of the Independent Authority Against Corruption on the book by Makarios Drousiotis "Mafia State". The government spokesperson characterised the document as "absolutely to be respected" and emphasised that the lawful procedures provided for by the Constitution and relevant legislation must be followed normally, so that the serious allegations contained within it are examined thoroughly.
Mr Letymiotis clarified that the executive branch operates on the basis of the Constitution, respects the independence of institutions and the Judiciary, and upholds the presumption of innocence. In the event that the procedures require intervention from the government, this will be carried out within constitutional limits and the remit of each institution.
At the same time, the spokesperson stressed that tolerance of corruption phenomena remains zero, whilst the commitment to transparency, accountability and strengthening citizens' trust in institutions is non-negotiable.
