Cyprus: Fraud Via WhatsApp Using Fake Police Identity
The Cyprus Police have issued a warning to citizens regarding fraudsters who are making calls via WhatsApp, impersonating members of the authorities.
The scammers are contacting unsuspecting individuals using different numbers. To strengthen their credibility, they have set a photograph of the Police Commissioner as their profile picture. The conversations are conducted in English.
The authorities clarify that they never request personal or financial data, login codes or payments via messaging applications.
Citizens are urged to ignore such contacts, not to open links and not to share sensitive information. Anyone who has already provided banking details should contact their bank immediately.
