Eight people were arrested across Cyprus during a nationwide police operation on Thursday evening, whilst 295 traffic violations were recorded.

Eight people were arrested in various areas of Cyprus on Thursday evening as part of targeted prevention operations conducted across the island, whilst authorities recorded 295 traffic violations for various offences.
In a statement issued on Friday, police reported that they maintained an enhanced presence across the island during the night, conducting organised patrols in central urban areas with the aim of preventing serious crime, maintaining public order and enhancing public feelings of safety.
According to the authorities, the arrests involved various offences, including theft from an employee, unlawful residence in Cyprus, possession of a knife, unlawful possession of narcotics and assault on a police officer.
As part of the operations, officers stopped and checked 629 drivers and 131 passengers. Additionally, inspections were carried out at 44 establishments as part of efforts to combat criminal activity, which resulted in six offence reports.
During the road checks, 295 traffic violations were recorded, whilst six cases of suspected traffic violations remain under investigation. Among the violations, 83 involved excessive speed. Four vehicles were seized for investigative purposes.
A total of 95 alcohol tests were conducted, resulting in three drivers being reported for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Police clarified that such operations continue daily, with increased police presence, targeted checks and immediate operational action aimed at preventing and suppressing crime, protecting the public and maintaining public order.
