Detectives in Larnaca have uncovered evidence linking suspects arrested for an attempted theft at a jewellery shop to a similar incident at a bank branch in Kiti.
Larnaca: Investigation links two attempted robbery cases
Detectives from TAE Larnaca have proceeded with a joint investigation of two separate incidents following new evidence linking the same perpetrators to both cases.
The first incident concerns an attempted theft at a jewellery shop that took place on 6 July in Larnaca. Two individuals are already being held on remand in connection with this case. The second involves an attempted break-in at a bank branch in Kiti on 19 June.
The head of the investigation, Giorgos Charalambous, stated that during enquiries into the jewellery shop case, evidence emerged implicating the same individuals in the bank case. On the basis of this development, summons warrants were issued for the two suspects.
Regarding the jewellery shop, police arrested on 7 July a man aged 41, a national of a European country. A second individual, aged 33, had been arrested previously.
Concerning the incident in Kiti, on 19 June two individuals arrived in a sedan outside a bank branch. They descended from the vehicle with their faces covered, carrying sports bags, and approached the entrance. The access control system prevented them from entering. After remaining for a few minutes, they returned to the vehicle and fled.
The authorities are examining charges including conspiracy to commit a felony, attempted robbery, illegal possession of category B weapons, causing bodily harm, possession of an offensive weapon, carrying weapons for the purpose of intimidation, as well as illegal trafficking of explosive materials without a permit.
