An alert was raised in Limassol following an incident in which a police officer from Unit Z had to use his service pistol. The incident began when an officer spotted a vehicle moving in the Omonoia area without registration plates, according to reports by Philenews.
The special forces officer signalled the driver to stop for inspection, but the latter refused and attempted to escape. A pursuit began, which ended at a dead end. There, the driver reversed and moved towards the police officer on the motorcycle, striking his machine.
The officer responded by firing at the vehicle's tyres, resulting in it being immobilised. Before the forces could restrain him, the suspect managed to exit the vehicle and disappear by running. At the time of writing, the authorities are conducting an operation to locate and apprehend him.
The injured police officer was taken to a medical facility for precautionary reasons. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
