Businessman Michális Zolótas is seeking through his lawyers to stop every reference to his name in publications related to the Independent Authority Against Corruption's investigation into the "Mafia State" case.
In a press statement released to the public, Zolótas's legal representatives emphasise that recent publications in the media included the name and photograph of their client in the context of references to the appointment of an independent investigative team. The businessman argues that linking his name with characterisations such as "wanted" or "involved" harms his personality and reputation.
Zolótas invokes two court decisions: firstly, a decision by the Supreme Court in 2019 that ruled his extradition to Cyprus unlawful, and secondly, a final decision by the Permanent Criminal Court of Nicosia in 2020 by which he was acquitted of all charges.
"At no stage of the investigation was I under investigation. Nor does the Authority's announcement refer to me as a person under investigation," he states.
The businessman is seeking the deletion of all relevant publications and warns that he will take every legal measure to protect his rights.
