A package containing eight kilograms of dried poppy pods was discovered at a courier company in Limassol. Officers from the drug enforcement unit arrested a 30-year-old man.

In a new anti-narcotics operation in Limassol, officers from the drug enforcement unit discovered a package containing eight kilograms of dried poppy pods. The discovery was made yesterday, following an assessment of information that had been gathered by the prosecution authorities.
The package was found at a transport company in the city. During the search, police officers found inside it forty sealed containers with dried pods from the poppy plant, the narcotic plant. The total gross weight of the illegal substance reached eight kilograms.
A 30-year-old man was arrested in connection with the case, based on a warrant issued by a judge. The arrested man was taken into custody and today is expected to be brought before the District Court of Limassol in order for a detention order to be issued.
This incident comes to be added to a series of similar cases in recent days. According to available information, over 30 kilograms of similar substances have been seized in the preceding days, whilst seven individuals have been arrested in Nicosia and Limassol and are in custody. The investigations of the authorities for the detection of networks distributing such narcotics are ongoing.
