Knife attack in Aglantzia: two arrests for attempted murder

Two men, aged 24 and 21, were remanded in eight-day custody by Nicosia District Court on Tuesday in connection with an attempted murder that occurred in the early morning hours.

According to Cyprus Mail, the victim — a 21-year-old — was attacked with a knife at approximately 1:15 a.m. in Aglantzia and is receiving treatment in critical condition at Nicosia General Hospital.

The suspects are Indian nationals and, according to information available so far, the case is connected to a dispute over an Iraqi woman. Investigators are examining whether the 24-year-old had maintained a previous relationship with her before the 21-year-old victim began approaching her.

There are indications that the 24-year-old may have attempted to rekindle the relationship, a fact that possibly triggered the attack. The younger suspect is reported to have assisted the perpetrator, possibly by providing the weapon used.

The authorities are also expected to question the Iraqi woman in order to clarify the motives behind the attack.
