During an extensive police operation across Cyprus, nine people were arrested and hundreds of drivers were checked, with hundreds of reports filed for various offences.

During the previous night, police forces conducted extensive operations across Cyprus, resulting in the arrest of nine persons and the checking of hundreds of drivers and passengers.
According to Politis, patrols focused on key locations in urban centres, aimed at preventing serious criminal acts, maintaining public order and strengthening public confidence.
The arrested individuals face charges including theft, concealment of stolen goods, possession of prohibited substances and illegal residence in the country. In addition, sweeping checks were carried out in shops and other premises, which resulted in one additional report for disorderly conduct.
In the field of road safety, 602 drivers and 139 passengers were stopped for inspection. Of these, 249 were referred for various violations of the road traffic code. The majority of violations (92) concerned drivers who exceeded the permitted speed limits. In ten cases, investigations were initiated for more serious traffic offences, whilst four vehicles were seized.
Checks for driving under the influence of alcohol (58 in number) produced no positive results. By contrast, of five drug tests, one was positive. The targeted actions of the prosecution authorities continue uninterrupted across the territory.
