A 25-year-old motorcycle rider attempted to evade a traffic check, caused injury to a police officer and tested positive for alcohol and drugs. A grinder with traces of cannabis was found in the vehicle.

A 25-year-old riding a motorcycle without a helmet refused to stop at a traffic check near the Paralimni–Deryneia roundabout yesterday afternoon. Rather than comply with the police signal, he accelerated and changed direction.
During his escape, the motorcycle struck an officer on the hand, injuring him. Shortly afterwards, the motorcycle collided with a parked car and came to a stop.
Authorities investigated the vehicle and found a mechanical grinder beneath the rider's seat that contained residue of a plant substance, possibly cannabis.
Upon testing for driving under the influence, the young man recorded a reading of 21 μg% alcohol, far exceeding the maximum permitted limit of 9 μg%. Furthermore, a preliminary test for psychotropic substances returned positive.
Both the arrested man and the police officer were transferred to Ammochostos Hospital for examinations and were discharged. Following the conclusion of questioning, the 25-year-old was released pending a summons to appear before a judge at a later stage.
His driving licence was temporarily suspended. The investigation is continuing by the PCCB and the local police station.
