Eight-day remand for 35-year-old over possession of 10kg of drugs in Nicosia
Nicosia District Court has ordered eight-day remand for a 35-year-old following the discovery of ten kilogrammes of raw cannabis and other substances at his residence. The man has been living illegally on the island since April 2022.

Nicosia District Court has issued an eight-day remand order against a 35-year-old following the discovery of a significant quantity of narcotic substances at his residence. The case was uncovered during a search carried out by the Police yesterday at the suspect's house.
According to a Police announcement and a report published on the website Politis, officers discovered 54 airtight packages containing raw poppy buds of the plant papaver somniferum inside the dwelling, with a total gross weight of ten kilogrammes. Additionally, two nylon bags containing dried buds of the same substance, weighing one hundred grammes, were found, as well as fifteen grammes of beige powder.
The officers handling the case established that the 35-year-old does not possess lawful permission to remain in the Republic of Cyprus. From checks carried out, it emerged that he has been on the territory of the country illegally since April 2022.
The large quantity of substances seized, combined with the manner in which they were packaged, has led the prosecuting authorities to conclude that the suspect's activities were not restricted solely to personal use. Investigators are examining all possibilities, including his involvement in a wider drug trafficking network.
The remand order issued by the court allows the authorities to continue investigations and to interrogate the suspect regarding the source of the narcotics as well as any accomplices. The 35-year-old is expected to appear before court again following the expiry of the eight-day period.
