Large-scale police operations across Cyprus resulted in eight arrests and hundreds of offences reported against drivers for various violations.

A major police operation was conducted overnight in urban centres across the territory. As part of this operation, the prosecuting authorities proceeded to arrest eight individuals, who face charges relating to knife possession, grievous bodily harm, theft, and illegal residence on the territory of the Republic of Cyprus.

According to information reported by Philenews, uniformed officers inspected 600 vehicles and examined 803 drivers and passengers. Additionally, 39 inspections were carried out at shops and other premises, which resulted in seven offences being reported.

With regard to traffic control checks, police officers submitted 376 reports for traffic violations. Nearly one hundred of these concerned drivers who were driving at a speed above the permitted limit. Of the 79 tests for driving under the influence of alcohol, seven were positive. Additionally, two tests for narcotics came back positive, while twelve vehicles were seized.

The security authorities state that targeted measures to combat crime and maintain public order will continue with unabated intensity.
