Law enforcement in Paphos detained a housekeeping worker on Thursday following a holidaymaker's complaint that gold ornaments valued at approximately €1,000 had vanished from her lodging. The Cyprus Mail reported that the traveller realised upon re-entering her room that a pair of golden accessories were no longer there. Investigation by the establishment's management together with police revealed that the detainee had gained entry using a universal key, despite the fact that cleaning that particular suite fell outside her duties. While being interviewed by detectives, she reportedly acknowledged responsibility for the disappearance of the valuables. She remains in custody as the investigation continues.
