Investigation into Videogate scandal extended until 20 July
The investigation into the video published on the "Emily Thomson" account on the X platform on 8 January 2026 has been extended. Independent Criminal Investigator Andreas Paschalidis, who is working with the prosecution authorities, has secured an extension of the investigation until 20 July 2026.
In a statement, Mr Paschalidis noted that the Attorney General of the Republic approved the relevant request he had submitted.
The reason for the delay, as he explained, is the need to complete the collection of evidence. Specifically, material of critical importance to the case came into the possession of investigators very recently and additional time is required to evaluate it.
The criminal investigation is examining whether offences were committed in connection with the specific audiovisual material.
