The Cypriot government has proceeded with the appointment of five criminal investigators to investigate the conclusions contained in the report of the Anti-Corruption Authority, which concerns the widely known "State-Mafia" case. The decision was taken at yesterday's session of the Cabinet of Ministers and marks the transition of the investigation to a more advanced stage.
The five appointed investigators have been tasked with examining what emerged from the Anti-Corruption Authority's document. The selected team includes two university academics from the legal field with recognised standing, along with two lawyers. These legal experts had previously collaborated with the Anti-Corruption Authority on other cases investigating potential violations. Indeed, one of the two lawyers had drafted the report which led to the opening of the criminal proceedings.
According to a report in the newspaper Politis, these selections are considered sufficient to ensure that the investigation will be conducted with impartiality and without external interference.
