Intensive police checks across the country on Wednesday night led to five arrests for criminal offences and hundreds of traffic citations.

On Wednesday night, police forces increased their presence across Cyprus, carrying out systematic patrols in critical areas of city centres. The aim was to prevent serious violations, maintain public order and strengthen public sense of protection.

The preventative operations led to the arrest of five individuals for various criminal offences including possession of a knife, threats, drunk and disorderly behaviour, causing public alarm, and obtaining goods through false claims.

During the checks, 473 vehicles and 638 drivers or passengers were examined. In addition, 45 inspections were carried out at shops and premises, resulting in 7 citations.

Regarding road safety, 253 violations of the Road Traffic Code were recorded. Of these, 105 involved excessive speed. A total of 78 breath tests were conducted, with 7 positive results. One drug test also returned a positive result. At the same time, seven vehicles were immobilised.

Police operations continue on a daily basis, with increased forces, targeted checks and immediate intervention, with the aim of ensuring public safety and maintaining order.
