During the night of Thursday, police forces proceeded with the arrest of five individuals as part of a wide-ranging operation that spread across the entire island. The arrested individuals are accused of various offences, including assault with a sharp object, intimidation, consumption of addictive substances, causing a disturbance and acquiring items through false declarations.

In a statement issued by the authorities, it was noted that the operation included systematic patrols in high-risk areas in urban zones. The main objective was to prevent serious criminal behaviour, safeguard social peace and strengthen the sense of security among residents.

In statistical terms, police officers stopped 473 vehicles for inspection and examined 638 individuals, drivers and passengers. In parallel, 45 inspections were carried out in business and other premises, which resulted in 7 reports.

Regarding road behaviour, 253 violations of the traffic code were recorded. Of these, 105 concerned driving above the permitted speed limits. In 78 cases, alcohol consumption was tested, with seven samples coming back positive. In addition, one test for drugs came back positive. During the investigations, seven vehicles were also seized.

The authorities emphasise that such operations will continue on a daily basis, with increased presence on the roads, targeted checks and immediate response, with public safety and the maintenance of public order as the guiding principle.
