Since January, the Police and Environment Department of the British Bases have been carrying out joint operations to combat illegal hunting dog training in protected zones.
According to Philenews, checks are focused on the areas of Akrotiri, Episcopi and Paramali, where Special Protection Zones are located.
Legislation prohibits the training of hunting dogs within these areas. Violators risk a fine of €300 or imprisonment of up to two years and a monetary penalty of up to €3,417.
Unmanned aircraft allow the authorities to detect illegal activities in inaccessible areas.
