A male body in advanced decomposition was discovered in a rural area of Larnaca district, prompting the prosecution authorities to open an investigation for premeditated manslaughter, according to Politis.
In the early hours of Sunday 21 June 2026, police arrested a young man aged 22 years, also from Bangladesh, by court warrant. The arrest was made as part of investigations into the disappearance of Shahruar Ahmed Emon, a foreigner of the same age and nationality.
During interrogation, the arrested man allegedly admitted to abducting the victim and subsequently killing him. He even pointed investigators to the exact location where he had deposited the body. Authorities found the body in advanced decomposition, and a knife was discovered nearby which, according to the suspect, was used for the murder.
The area was immediately cordoned off to conduct thorough investigations. A pathologist was called to the scene to examine the body, whilst a team from the Criminal Investigations Service collected evidence. The pathological examination revealed that death was caused by injuries resulting from a sharp object. Personal items belonging to the victim were found at the scene, which strengthened the assessment that the body belonged to the missing person.
The disappearance of the 22-year-old had been reported to authorities on 12 June by his flatmate. According to the statement, the young man had left home in the afternoon of the previous day, stating that he was heading to a poultry unit to work.
That same evening, the victim's father, who lives abroad, received a call from an unknown person. Written messages followed in which a sum of money was demanded as a condition for his son's release.
The arrested man was remanded in custody and brought before the District Court of Larnaca for a detention order to be issued. The Larnaca CID continues to investigate the case.
