Prison sentence of 2.5 years imposed on 41-year-old for unlawful appropriation of Greek-Cypriot properties in occupied areas
The Permanent Criminal Court of Nicosia has imposed a prison sentence of two and a half years on a 41-year-old man who admitted to 18 charges relating to the unlawful advertisement and promotion of properties that were constructed on land owned by Greek-Cypriot owners in the occupied areas.

The Permanent Criminal Court of Nicosia yesterday imposed a prison sentence of two and a half years on a man aged forty-one, who admitted his guilt on eighteen charges concerning the unlawful advertisement and promotion of properties in occupied areas.
According to the police, the convicted man had engaged in the promotion and sale of buildings that had been illegally constructed on land belonging to Greek-Cypriot owners, in villages in the districts of Kyrenia and Famagusta that are under Turkish occupation. The charges were related to the exploitation of properties whose legitimate owners were displaced following the Turkish invasion in 1974.
The forty-one-year-old admitted to the charges brought against him, a fact which led to his conviction by the court. The case falls within the framework of efforts by Cypriot authorities to combat the phenomenon of exploitation of Greek-Cypriot properties in the occupied areas, which constitutes a serious issue in relation to the rights of legitimate owners.
