Six-month prison sentence for 25-year-old woman for laughing gas and illegal residence in Cyprus
A court in Famagusta district has convicted a 25-year-old woman to six months imprisonment after she was found guilty of two offences: possession of a controlled drug and illegal residence in the country.
The case began on 9 June 2026, when police arrested the young woman. In a search that was carried out, officers found in her possession a metal canister containing 64 empty nitrous oxide capsules — the substance commonly used as "laughing gas" — along with 68 balloons. Additionally, 100 euros in cash was seized.
Following further investigation, it was established that the woman had been residing in Megalonísos without valid residence permission. The court took this factor into account in reaching its decision.
