Brian Cathbertson, a Scottish national, appeared before court accused of causing the death of his 54-year-old wife Dona through negligence following a fall she suffered in their home.

According to Cyprus Today, the couple had moved to the occupied territories two years ago. Police officer Ertzan Atasai testified at Kyrenia District Court on 24 August that following Mrs Cathbertson's accidental fall in their home, the accused failed to provide her with assistance or call emergency services.

A post-mortem examination carried out on the wife showed that she died from loss of blood, which caused multi-organ failure. The accused spent three days at Nicosia state hospital whilst in police custody and was to return there for treatment after the hearing.

Cathbertson was released on bail of 30,000 Turkish lira pending his trial, whilst his passport was confiscated.
