A young man was arrested with over one kilogramme of drugs concealed on his body and was detained in hospital for eight days.

28-year-old arrested at Larnaca airport for cocaine importation
A 28-year-old man was apprehended on 6 July 2026 at Larnaca airport with a quantity of cocaine exceeding one kilogramme concealed on his body. He was located and arrested by officers from the Drug Enforcement Service along with customs officials, as part of joint operations to identify individuals importing illegal substances into the country.
The arrested man was required to remain at Larnaca General Hospital for eight days in order to safely expel all the packages he was carrying. He ultimately expelled 110 packages, with a total weight of 1 kilogramme and 110 grammes, and was then discharged.
Shortly thereafter, he was taken to the District Court of Larnaca, where charges were brought against him. The court decided to refer the case to the Criminal Court of Larnaca for trial, whilst ordering the defendant to remain in custody until the next hearing, which was set for 5 October 2026.
The Drug Enforcement Service continues to investigate the case.
